How is everyone feeling about the possibility of Obamacare being repealed? Does anyone have luck with private pay insurance during FIRE and if so, how expensive is it compared to Obamacare?

We’re close to FIRE and now are scared that what we’ve budgeted for health insurance won’t be nearly enough.

Trump said he would repeal it last time he was in office and never got anything accomplished.

He also had the house and senate the first half of his term last time and got no where.

I expect much of the same this time around.

The biggest difference between ACA/Obamacare and regular market insurance is that you can NOT be discriminated against for having a pre-existing condition with Obamacare.

Open market insurance can either (a) exclude care related to your condition, or (b) deny you insurance altogether, or (c) charge you a very high premium to offset their risk of insuring your condition.

Given that I rely on the VA entirely for my healthcare I really do not have a clue about Obamacare; My suggestion would be to start researching alternatives to Obamacare in your state case if it in fact does get repealed.

I don’t see it happening. Too many on both sides use it and there is no replacement.

In addition. Even with the gop having a majority in all three aspects they couldn’t repeal it.

Too narrow a majority for it to happen

It just means you won’t get income based subsidies anymore. I’ve been on Obamacare for 10 yrs. Most years I pay 4-600 a month.

This year I paid full price due to a spike in income. Full price was 1500 a month for two people.

So that’s probably a good number if the republicans torpedo the aca.

President Trump has always been pro universal health care. When asked about replacing the ACA he has always insisted that it be cheaper, cover more and cover everyone.

The problem was last time he let Paul Ryan in the house come up with the plan and then kept sabotaging it because he doesn’t agree with any Republicans on this.

Because it has been associated with “Obama”, it is evil in the eyes of half this nation.

Even though they are the ones who will be hurt the most if it is eliminated.
