Does anyone buy their pet prescriptions at human pharmacies and notice a bigger price reduction?

We need 50mg of gabapentin for our cat…they’re “tiny tabs” but we crush them up and put it in baby food so size doesn’t matter. It costs us $73 for 60 tabs.

He’s also diabetic so we buy viles of insulin called Prozinc which I believe is also sold for humans.

That costs us $125 for 40ml. Looking to see if there’s a way to reduce these very real costs.

I fill my dog’s meds at Costco. Ask them if there is a price difference in filling 60 tabs v. 120 tabs.

Check GoodRX. Took my dogs cancer meds from $10000 to $250

I got my cat his insulin at Walmart for $25/vial! It turned out he was not responsive to human insulin so eventually we switched to more expensive vet specific, but regular insulin was what he was first prescribed and I was SHOCKED at the Walgreens price vs $25 at Walmart.

No prescription needed either! (for insulin nor syringes) (Even though we did have the prescription from the vet).

Don’t miss: This is one of the best frugal tips I’ve followed consistently lately

The problem is that Gabapentin is not manufactured for humans in a 50mg size. The smallest is 100mg capsule. Your tiny tablets are likely compounded specifically for cats. The only human formulation option would be a liquid.

Prozinc is also veterinary specific. The price you are paying is comparable to most online options.

My rescue dog is on Trazodone which is a $4 prescription at Walmart. I get double dose tablets and split them in half so $2 a month.

We use insulin from Walmart pharmacy for our dog. A vile that lasts six weeks and 100 syringes is $38.
