Hi there! I’m considering purchasing a freeze dryer and I’m wondering if anyone here has one and can share their experience. I’ve been researching freeze dryers for preserving food, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the investment.

Can anyone who owns a freeze dryer provide insights into its effectiveness, ease of use, and overall value? I’d also love to hear about the types of foods you’ve successfully freeze-dried and any tips you have for getting the most out of a freeze dryer.

Any feedback or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks!

I have one and when fresh produce is in season at the farmers markets I buy big, 95% nutritional value and much fresher than the grocery store. I do chicken when on sale, hamburger and leftovers. Reconstituting is easy and meals are fast.

I do precook my meat before freeze drying. Love mash potatoes also.

Do your research first it is an investment.

I love my freeze dryer. It’s a year this month for us. My favorite is eggs. We aren’t allowed to raise chickens so when eggs are cheap I stock up AB’s freeze dry them. So now when eggs are over $3 a dozen I don’t have to pay that price.

I also love it for herbs in the summer to preserve them as close to fresh as possible.

Freeze dried mashed potatoes are the BOMB!

Then of course there are the veggies. Celery and onion are at the top of my faves. I also love mushrooms.

So yes it was worth the cost to us.

We have one and I love it. We have a garden and I have to say the tomatoes we freeze dried are off the chart good.

I will say it changes the texture and one of my grandsons is not impressed with it, but his sister likes most of what we do.

I’m considering but it is very expensive and takes up a fair amount of space. I love dehydrated fruit, just not sure if it’s worth it.
