I want to close 2 of my oldest credit cards because my ex is still on them. He might need to his good credit score in about 2 years.

His score will bounce back by then, just close them as long as you have others open and active and underutilized you should be fine.

I cancelled two cards, both older, and my score went up. My utilization is typically around 5% and I pay in full monthly.

I think your utilization will have a bigger effect than closing the accounts will.

Is he an authorized user on yours or the other way?

I think average account age is a low % factor like 10% of your score but if you can keep it open for yourself that’d be probably the best outcome.

Remove him and keep the cards open for yourself.

His credit score will bounce back within 6 months. Though very likely less.

I removed myself off of 2 of my ex’ cards and it took about 3 months for my credit score to catch up.

Why close them, just remove his name.
