My family has tons of medical/dental expenses this year, well over the threshold to claim them as deductions. Let’s say we have $15k of expenses and $5k of that is deductible.

Years later when I’m pulling money from my HSA, how much of that can I access as a tax-free reimbursement? I’m assuming the answer is either $10k or $0.

If you claim as deductions on your tax return, I’m pretty sure you can’t use HSA to reimburse. It’s one or the other.

Don’t double dip. Unless you determine that the chances of IRS determining a medical expense in 2023 was then used as a few receipts in 50 receipts you use for an HSA withdrawal in 2036. Which is so close to 0% chance that it’s just 0%. But don’t double dip.

$50k annually is probably not going to get you there. Especially if you want to end up with $3 million in today’s dollars.
