Or is it mostly obscure savings at places most don’t go anyway?

If you use the discounts it’s worth it and if you don’t, it’s not. I really disliked their materials, magazine, etc., as it’s almost all consumer-lifestyle focused. Vapid, really, unless you enjoy doing what everyone else is doing for the sake of belonging to the consumerist class and comparing cruise notes.

OTOH, their podcast “The Perfect Scam” is excellent, but you don’t need to belong to listen to that.

We’ve been members for awhile. You can book cruises for the same price as the cruise line but you get extra on board credit every time just for going through the AARP travel portal (powered by Expedia). It’s super cheap to join and every year they send us a free gift to renew (like packing cubes, a usb hub, etc). Overall since you can usually join for $12 a year to cover both you and your spouse it’s a no brainer really.

AAAP membership is cheap. I joined mainly because they advocate for seniors. Many hotel chains give discounts. You can go on the AARP website to see if u would use the discounts on other things.

Joined just for the discount on Consumer Cellular, it’s minimal but it helps. Don’t use any other services thru them. I reckon I need to look and see what they have.

I bought a 5-year AARP membership (included being able to add my husband for free) during a Memorial Day sale for a pretty cheap price. We’ll earn that 5-year membership fee back in just a couple of months with AARP benefits, so very much worthwhile!

My favorite benefit is an extra 0.1% on Marcus for 2 years. I have nice stash of savings in Marcus already, so I like this.

AARP also has discounts at some hotel chains, so that’s another benefit I’ve used.

I always thought AARP was only for seniors, so I was surprised to learn anyone can join and the majority of benefits are available to younger folks too.
