I’ve narrowed it down to the following:

      a) Land purchase (CA, Sierra foothills)

      b) Parter with father-in-law (who has the skills) to flip a fixer in Minnesota (he lives there)

      c) Build an Airbnb on an existing 1/2 acre lot I own in Cerritos, Mx

      d) leave it in cash, and wait for the next major market dip

I currently have $550k in net worth: (335k in real estate, 125k in stock market, and 90k liquid, VMFXX). This 90k investment would be long term, as my target retirement year is 2031.

Any tips/ideas would be graciously appreciated! And, definitely open to ideas not listed above.

Also, Do you plan to spend more time in mx? You could invest in Cetes at 11 percent if you need pesos for part of your retirement. The peso is really strong right now, hearing it may weaken a little by rears end, but who knows?

I live in Minnesota and we have property in Mexico too:). As a realtor/flipper in Mn. It quite hard to make a profit right now. So unless your fil has a lot of flipping experience, I wouldn’t advise it.

Would you do an Airbnb in in an up and coming place in mx? Merida, progresso? Baja?? I’m not familiar with Cerritos is it close to ocean or a bigger city for tourist attraction?

Market timing is always a bad strategy, and it seems like that’s been about your only strategy. Invest the money. If you choose stocks just put it all in now.

Also, How do you plan to retire in 8 years? You obviously have land in Mexico are you going to move there and have an extremely low cost of living?

You have 215k in investable assets, unless your expenses are like 10k per year, you aren’t even in the ballpark of retirement. Perhaps if you plan to sell all of the property you own and move to super low cost of living area it could be possible but not by keeping all of your money on the sidelines.

Don’t miss: Should I purchase VMFXX through my taxable account, Roth IRA, traditional IRA?
