      Investment advice

We are on our second DR approved financial planner. For the second time around we are not happy with the returns we are getting. Learning about the market is the last piece of my financial goals to tackle, but for now I’m trusting someone else.

I know the market is not doing well. However, my portfolio has made 0% profit in 2 years!  Throughout the past year or so when I inquire, I get the same answer. ‘It’s a long term investment’ ‘the market will rebound’ ‘you’re buying now when things are on sale’. I understand all of this. However, 2 years of no progress? That seems like something isn’t right.

We are debt free but the house. We invest 15%. Kids are grown. We have between 4-10 years to retire; and hoping it’s on the earlier side.

Is it unrealistic to expect a 0 gain over 2 years? I’m concerned and on the verge of either switching guys and/ or halting contributions.

      Thoughts?

This is just how the market is right now. Investments skyrocketed in 2020 and then came way back down. This is why you ride it out, especially through a major world event like the pandemic.

Sounds about normal for the past couple of years. Definitely do not stop contributions.

BS7) I’d have been happy with 0% return . We don’t have a huge portfolio but glad we’re not retired yet. We have a great advisor and at a 25% loss than had t crawl back up. This gave him options to buy the same stocks on sale and today we are almost even. Very much looking forward to the returns in another 6 to 9 months.

Hate to say it, but if you’re just getting 0% your good. A lot of us have seen our investments go down over the last few years. When the market corrects we’ll see our growth.

The market has been down since March of 2022. That’s just the way it is. Most stock market corrections are resolved in less than a year, so if you take your money out or stop contributing you may miss the rebound.
