Just bought a house with the original hardwood floors. They are beautiful and perfect. I’ve never had real hardwood floors so I’m looking for the best way to clean them?

I’ve read vinegar and water is great but figured I’d ask first if this is true or if there’s something better.

      TIA

No vinegar, it’s too acidic. I’m a housecleaner this is a big no no for me. No hot water either. Warm is fine, I use lemon Lysol all purpose. Been using it for years no issues. You also don’t want to use a wet mop. Wring it out well.

I use a cap of Murphys oil soap in my bucket of water, with a microfiber mop. Very little water on the floor. Vinegar will dull your finish. Do not mop the floor if the finish is worn off.

Grew up in a house built in the 1700’s. We spent hundreds of dollars on Murphy’s Oil . It was the best ! We had gorgeous wide walnut wooden floors in all 24 rooms ! My father finally bought stock in the company after twenty years !

Murphy’s oil soap is awful for wood floors. In the future if you ever want to have them refinished it just gums up because it puts such a film on the floor. Plain water is best or a tablespoon of cleaner. Use a microfiber mop wrung out very well. If you add a touch of rubbing alcohol it helps the floors dry faster and streak free. My ex husband owns a hardwood floor company and I was a professional house cleaner for years.

20 years in the flooring business, don’t put water on the hardwood floors. Bona is a good product to use.

I am getting a new area rug fo rmy dining room so yesterday, we took up the old rug, used Murphy’s Oil soap and then Floor Restore. They look great. I use the Wood Floor Restore about every year or two. I use Murphy’s on my Cherry cabinets and furniture. Never had a problem and they look like new after 20+ years.

Years ago we stripped the carpet off of our hardwood floors (house built in 1959.) honestly, I just use a dry swiffer then a wet swiffer and it works fine. When I vacuum over it, I use the floors and tools setting. They still look good except the scratches from the dog’s claws. Oh well. Good luck.
