I have a really big problem with chiggars, ticks and fleas in my yard. My dogs are all on prevention but whenever I go in yard I get bit up. 3 ticks on me just this last week. I paid a professional to spray the yard $189 and it didn’t seem to help.

They came back out and did one more free application but I feel like they’re not spraying it very well they’re just kind of doing the edges. I can’t plant anything out there to deter because my dogs will just chew it up. Does anybody treat their yard themselves and if so what do they use that is pet friendly?

Thank you to all who gave me some new ideas! Will give them a try.

Get a couple if chickens… they can eat there own weight in ticks in no time!! (Plus.. you get some fresh eggs).

I agree with the above posters on the DE. Just wear a quality mask because it is really bad to breathe into your lungs.

We used it several years back when fleas took over the backyard due to a neighbor dog. We walked dog and always kept him in the front yard until the DE had time to kill of everything.

I don’t remember how long it took – we had a new baby in the middle of the process so my brain was fried.

We use Diatomaceous Earth and sprinkle it around on the edges or fences, house, and especially by doors and windows.

In addition I bought a garlic based spray (called Garlic Barrier) that I spray myself every 2 weeks (or so). It is a potent 99.3 % natural garlic oil barrier helps deter deer, rabbits, field mice, whiteflies, spidermites, ants, aphids, grasshoppers, spiders, and other pests. Other ingredients are 0.5% citric acid (from corn) 0.2% potassium sorbate.

No problem with kids or dogs being near it.
