We want to catch up before Ramadan, to rectify our hearts. Wash and purify our hearts.
How will I be able to wash it if water can’t reach it? Wash it with what can reach it… Ok, what can reach the heart?! Remembrance of Allah and Qur’an. These are the one’s that reach the heart.
Allah says: “the believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when his verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith” [8:2]. Therefore, wash your heart with the remembrance of Allah and Qur’an.
You know that washing requires a lot of water, not two or three drops of water. Which means that you should remember Allah and read the Qur’an abundantly during these days.
We want to increase the remembrance of Allah, instead of hundreds we used to say, we should increase Dhikr to thousands now.
The five type of Dhirk are:
Seeking forgiveness, sending blessings on the Prophet [SAW], saying Allahu Akbar, and La Ilaha Illa Allah.
And also the enduring good deeds, which are: “Subhan Allah, Walhamdulillah, Wal La Ilaha Illa Allah, Allahu Akbar, Wa La Hawla Wa La Quwwata Illah Billah”.
Also the two words beloved to Allah: “Subhana Allah Wa Bi Hamdihi, Subhana Allah Al-Adheem”.
For each one, we should say it 1000 times. Saying it a 1000 times would take only 15 minutes. 15 minutes is not a problem in the life of a Muslim.
Each of the five more 15 minutes. All of the Dhikr would take an hour and 15 minutes. Not more than 15 minutes for Dhikr.
As for reciting the Qur’an a Juz’ would take only 20 minutes. We want to recite within a given day at least the absolute minimum 3 Juz’.
One Juz’ in the morning, one Juz’ at night in our 11 Raka’h night prayer, and one Juz’ in the middle of the day we should recite between prayers. Recite it while traveling, at break, or while waiting.
3 Juz’ of the Qur’an at least, this is the minimum for a given day.
What if you tell me, I want to wash my heart by the remembrances and recitation of the Qur’an abundantly, but you say I still feel a hardening of the heart and the softness hasn’t reached my heart.
I will tell you then, wash it with two very important things:
The fear of Allah, and the longing to see Allah.
A fear of Allah that causes anxiety and a longing of Allah that causes restlessness.
Have fear: Have fear of Allah’s vengeance and punishment. Have fear of scandal, have fear of being stripped of your faith.
Have fear of being expelled [from the mercy of Allah], have fear of being cursed. Have fear!
And have a longing of Allah that causes restlessness.
Live this longing, do you long to see the Prophet [SAW]?
Do you long to drink from the Prophet’s [SAW] hand?
Do you long to see our Lord Allah?
Do you long to enter Paradise?
Do you long to feel assured of your good deeds and a good state with Allah?
Live this longing and it will push you to perform good deeds and it will wash and purify your heart.
