Query: Assalamu aleikom. I would like to ask you if it is permissible to use permanent contraception which is removable after 3 years. For me this is the only safe way of using contraception because I have a blood disease called Leiden mutation and that’s why doctors don’t recommend me and some of them don’t even allow me to use contraception in form of pills.
Answer
If pregnancy will/could be harmful to you, then you can use temporary types of contraception. It’s not permissible to prevent pregnancy for a lifetime unless Muslim truthful doctors decide on it in order to protect you from certain harm.
Thus, as long as there’s a necessity, you can use any type of contraception to prevent harm; then stop it so that you can still be pregnant.
